These procedures apply to all bargaining unit faculty appointments approved by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees: tenure, tenure-track, one-year term, or grant, at the rank of Dean, Chair, Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Faculty Specialist, and Instructor.
- NATIONAL POSTING:
It is recommended that an advertisement be placed with the Chronicle of Higher Education or other appropriate national publication. Each position should also be listed with the placement service of the most relevant professional association.
- UNIVERSITY (STATE AND LOCAL) POSTING:
The position must be listed with the Western Michigan University Department of Human Resources which, in turn, will advertise the vacancy as follows:
- Local agencies and organizations that represent minorities, veterans, and disabled.
- All faculty vacancies will be listed on the online recruiting system.
- Departments are encouraged to list vacancies on the department/college websites, providing a hyperlink to the full posting on the on-line recruiting system faculty vacancies.
These procedures do not preclude the right of the department to utilize the personal contacts of faculty and to advertise the vacancy in other ways it deems desirable. Please remember to use the guidelines for the use of the university’s signature when advertising.
