Western Michigan University was founded in 1903, and the successes experienced by the University since then have truly been remarkable. Here are just a few things I’d like you to know about WMU.
- WMU is one of fewer than 200 public and private institutions in the United States designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a “research university.”
- Western Michigan University is home to a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa—one of only 97 public universities that has been awarded the privilege of hosting a chapter of the nation’s most prestigious academic fraternities.
- WMU’s Lee Honors College was one of the nation’s first collegiate honors programs, and today, is home to more than 1,000 of the nation’s best and brightest students.
- An extensive array of more than 230 quality academic programs provide the depth and range of offerings consistent with the needs of today’s students.
- We have impressive alumni—now some 165,000 strong—who have gone on to achieve at the highest levels in their professional and personal endeavors.
- WMU has a student body that is ethnically and racially diverse and welcomes an impressive representation of international students. Our institutional commitment is to serve all in an environment that is inclusive and respectful.
