Achievements by Current and Recent Graduate Students
The Department of Political Science at Western Michigan University focuses on three of the major fields of political science: American Politics, Comparative Politics, and Political Theory. It offers three graduate degrees: a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Political Science, a Master of Arts degree in Political Science and a Masters in International Development Administration (including with a Peace Corps option). [In addition, it also offers a combined MA/PhD program.]

Graduate programs at Western are designed to appeal to students interested in expanding their political science training. It prepares for professional careers within the scholarly community, as teachers, researchers, and academic investigators, or within public or private agencies, as senior policy analysts for a range of organizations.

Financial Support

Many Political Science graduate students receive financial support from the department or university. Several forms of support are available on a competitive basis.

  • Graduate Assistantships: available to MA, MDA and PhD students.
  • Doctoral Associateships: available to PhD students only.
