Reading Placement

Your suggested reading placement is based on a combination of ACT-Reading or SAT-Verbal scores and high school GPA.

Effective spring 2017, students entering Western Michigan University with a reading score range as listed below will have the option to take the Effective College Literacy Strategies course (LS 1040). This decision should be made in consultation with your academic advisor.

Things to consider:

  • The ability to comprehend what you read is a fundamental skill for success at WMU.
  • LS 1040 course counts towards your semester credits, but not towards your graduation credits.

Follow the table below to determine your suggested placement. Intellectual skills courses are listed in bold.
