Press Release - January 9, 2004

THIRD WMU BARRIER COATING SYMPOSIUM ISSUES CALL FOR PAPERS

Release #0304-special; Jan. 9, 2004--Contact: Cheryl Roland (269) 387-8412

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's Center for Coating Research and Development and its Barrier Coating Consortium Working Group have issued a request for papers to be presented at a fall symposium.

To be considered, papers should be related to new research, coating applications or improvements, coating chemistries, converting challenges, and test methods for barrier coatings. The business aspects of barrier coatings and the future of barrier coatings also are topics that will be covered at the symposium.

The WMU Barrier Coating Symposium will be held Oct. 12-13, 2004, at WMU's new campus for its College of Engineering and Applied Sciences in Kalamazoo, Mich., USA.

Papers relating actual mill experience are welcome. Authors interested in presenting a paper at the symposium should submit a draft manuscript or extended abstract electronically to Dr. Margaret Joyce. Please include title, author(s), introduction/objectives, experimental procedures, results, and conclusions for the extended abstract. The extended abstract should be at least 750 words, not including tables and figures.

The extended abstracts/papers are due by June 1, 2004. The papers will be peer-reviewed by a panel of experts in the field, and those who submit papers will be notified of the reviewers' decision in mid-July. Final manuscripts are due Sept. 24 for inclusion in the symposium proceedings.

For more information about symposium topics, contact Jan Walter at +1-269-276-3540 or jan.walter@wmich.edu.
