Based on an electronic pasteboard. Offers on-screen palettes. Graphic images imported using the place command from the file menu.
Can be imported as an independent or in-line graphic. An independent graphic can be moved anywhere while an in-line graphic becomes part of the text. We illustrate.
Can also place text from Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, etc. Several Plug-ins are available.
QuarkXPress
Has become the industry standard.
Available for both Mac and PC/Windows.
Uses a giant pasteboard.
Import text by first drawing a box. Several box shapes are available.
Move through pages by scrolling through a thumbnail or a “Go to Page” command.
Employs QuarkXtensions instead of plug-ins.
Xtensions must be written by developers who license the technology from Quark.
