Do Ik Lee

Since 1967, Dr. Do Ik Lee had worked in research at The Dow Chemical Company and risen to Senior Scientist in Dow Emulsion Polymers R&D. He retired from Dow in 2002 and is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Imaging at Western Michigan University. His research interests are latex technology, emulsion polymerization, structured latex polymerization, nano-latexes, starch latexes, latex particle morphology-property relationships, living free-radical emulsion polymerization, thermal properties of latexes, solid and hollow plastic pigments, paper coating technology, dispersion rheology, particle packing, colloid science, viscoelastic properties of coatings, general coatings technologies, papermaking, etc. Dr. Do Ik Lee has written more than 100 Dow internal research reports, published more than 50 peer-reviewed external papers, and made numerous presentations outside of Dow. He holds 27 U. S. patents.

Dr. Do Ik Lee received the 1986 TAPPI (The Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry) Coating & Graphic Arts Division Award and Charles W. Engelhard Medallion, and he was named a TAPPI Fellow in 1991. He received The American Chemical Society Midland Section Award for Outstanding Achievement and Promotion of Chemical Sciences in 1989. In 1992, he received The Saginaw Valley Patent Law Association’s Fire of Genius Award. Dr. Do Ik Lee received the Korea TAPPI Distinguished Service Award in 2003. In 1997, he was appointed as an adjunct professor in the Department of Paper and Printing Science and Engineering at Western Michigan University. Dr. Do Ik Lee served as Chair for the 2001 Gordon Research Conference on Polymer Colloids. In 2002, he was appointed as a member of the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) Research Advisory Committee. He served on the Korea TAPPI Journal Editorial Board.

Dr. Do Ik Lee is listed in “Who’s Who in the West”, “American Men & Women of Science”, “Who’s Who in the World”, “Who’s Who in Technology Today”, “Who’s Who in Polymers and Plastics”, etc.
