The Chemical Engineering program at Western Michigan University is characterized by:
A distinctive BS program that is ranked in the top three Chemical Engineering programs in Michigan and is well recognized by the industry and:
- An ABET accredited Chemical Engineering program that graduates 30 –35 job-ready graduates per year
- Provides educational and technical services to the industry
- Provides instructional laboratory experiences that ensure a practical understanding of chemical engineering with a minimum of 5 credit hours of laboratory work
- Provides opportunities to develop excellent written and oral communication skills
- Provides opportunities to experience chemical engineering education in a global context
- Provides student and faculty exchange nationally and internationally
- Has at least one endowed professor
A distinctive MS Chemical Engineering program that graduates 15 – 20 students per year that:
- Has theoretical and practical expertise in cutting edge technology in bioenergy, bioprocessing, pharmaceutical, environmental and green technology
- Has inter-disciplinary emphasis
- Has a focus on IP and commercialization
- Serves both traditional graduate students and employed engineers.
A distinctive PhD Chemical Engineering program that graduates 5 – 7 students per year.
An appropriate level of faculty to ensure a distinctive experience that provides:
- Strong undergraduate-faculty interaction through small class sizes and engaging students in research opportunities
- Hands on experience
- Outreach to high schools, community colleges and the industry
- Well developed mentoring of graduate students
- An externally funded research program in the department that is, on average, first or second in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and top five in Western Michigan University
