Proposal Preparation

StudentWriting guidelines

Research Officers assist WMU research and creative faculty on writing tips related to content development and by coordinating quality circle reviews. The following online sources provide guidance on writing proposals:

Quality circle review

Conducting a quality circle review (literally, a workshop on a draft of a proposal) begins with a research officer. Often, when a proposal has been declined the research officer can go to work to secure the evaluator's comments. A hard copy of evaluations are especially valuable when rewriting the proposal. Likewise, the criticism shows new researchers the true expectations of a sponsor and the writing process seems a lot less anonymous throughout the rewrite.

An initial research or creative proposal that has been declined deserves a second submit. Expert feedback from a college dean or an associate dean, a department chair and a few colleagues, can prove invaluable to rewriting the project narrative and other sections of the grant. Research officers represent the interests of assigned constituents, and they arrange quality circle reviews, inviting those deans, associate deans, chairs, and colleagues identified by the research or creative faculty. Connect with the appropriate research officer to request a quality circle review today.
