In September 2015, Western Michigan University partnered with Calvin College’s Speech Language Pathology Department and Grand Valley State University’s Physical Therapy Department to form Calvin College Rehabilitation Services (CCRS), an interdisciplinary outpatient rehabilitation clinic located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Calvin College Rehabilitation Services provides level II fieldwork education opportunities for WMU OT graduate students under the supervision of an occupational therapist. The occupational therapists serve as both on-site fieldwork educators as well as faculty members in Western Michigan University’s Department of Occupational Therapy.
Level II fieldwork experiences at Calvin College Rehabilitation Services are full-time, for 12 weeks, in accordance with Accreditation Council of Occupational Therapy standards. Level II fieldwork students at CCRS work with adult clients recovering from neurological impairment and pediatric clients in need of occupational therapy services. Students develop clinical skills in occupational therapy evaluation, intervention, professional behaviors and clinical reasoning through mentorship of their fieldwork educators within a supportive learning environment. They learn to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team consisting of physical therapists, speech language pathologists, audiologists and social workers.
