OT 3750: Applied Neurology
Course description
An applied study of human neurologic, neuro-muscular, neuro-motor, and sensori-motor function. Emphasis will be placed on development of normal occupational performance and conditions that effect occupation. This course will have 4 hours of lecture per week (two hours twice a week).
Relationship to curriculum design
This course falls under the Foundation Sciences portion of the curriculum design by developing understanding of how foundation concepts from the sciences support functional human performance at the DISCOVERY level. The students will be evaluated on the Foundation Sciences Competency as follows: The competent occupational therapy graduate understands how foundation concepts from the sciences support functional human performance.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the student will:
- know anatomical and neurological structures of the central and peripheral nervous systems.
- know functions of the anatomical structures of the central nervous and peripheral nervous systems.
- know the signs and symptoms that indicate pathology of the nervous systems.
- be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the structure and function of the human body to include biological and physical sciences, ACOTE standard B.1.4.
- be able to exhibit the ability to analyze the effects of physical and mental health, heritable diseases and predisposing genetic condition, disability disease process, and traumatic injury to the individual within the cultural context of family and society on occupational performance, ACOTE standard B.2.6.
