Using Chat

  1. To access a chat room, select “Chat” (under Course Tools on the left menu).

  1. Click on the title of the chat room you want to enter. The number of students currently in the chat room is displayed under the title.

  1. A chat window will open. To enter text in the chat, type your message in the bottom left text box and click "Send" (button to the right of text box).

  1. One feature of the chat room, if enabled, is Hand-raise mode. This feature requires you to "raise your hand" and wait to be called on before you may enter text in the chat. If this mode is enabled and you wish contribute, click "Raise Your Hand" (right side of screen, above the Participant List) and wait for the instructor to grant permission.

Whiteboard

Another feature of the chat room in Blackboard Vista is the Whiteboard. This feature (if enabled) is located above the chat area and allows the instructor or students to create visual notes, diagrams, or slide shows. The drawing tools menu is located to the right of the whiteboard.
