The University Studies degree completion program gives you the flexibility and control you need to finish your bachelor's degree on your terms. This degree integrates prior college coursework from virtually any major into a generalized degree from Western Michigan University. Complete your bachelor's degree without the constraints of a specialized curriculum. Many concentrations are available so you can take classes in areas that interest you. You can complete your University Studies degree entirely online. Or, when available, you can take face-to-face or hybrid classes on campus at WMU or at one of WMU’s regional locations.
University Studies is an excellent option for students wishing to transfer from a community college or four-year university with 56 credits or more credits. Specific program and general education transfer guides are available for students transferring from a Michigan community college. View the transfer guides by selecting the school from the drop down menu.
The ability to identify several academic areas of interest affords students the freedom to branch out to a maximum of three new areas of study to compliment their previous coursework. Many employers are looking for a bachelor's degree, not a specific major. A University Studies degree is a great way to show employers that you have varied interests and experience as well as a diversified education. You can find employment in the fields of your varied concentrations, just as if you minored in those areas. For instance, if you have concentrations in Business and Health, you might search for job opportunities in Health Administration.
"With two semesters left to graduate, financial obligations made it impossible for me to make my original major's required internship abroad. Through the University Studies program, I was able to graduate with a generalized degree. My advisor helped me to realize my goal of becoming the first person in my extended family to graduate from college."
-Katie B., University Studies graduate
"For years I have worked three jobs, seven days a week and have raised two kids on my own. I never thought I would be able to add finishing my degree into the mix. Thanks to the University Studies program, I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and will be graduating in the spring....it feels good!"
-Scott P., WMU University Studies graduate
