Critical Antivirus Update Available

A new Windows version of Symantec AntiVirus has been made available for download. This version addresses several vulnerabilities and is considered a critical update. All persons using computers attached to WMU's network should check to see if this update affects them, and if so, should download and install the new version. (Note: students on the residence hall network (ResNet) are already protected as updates are received automatically through WMU's network access program).

To check your antivirus version, right-mouse-click the gold shield located in the bottom right side of your task bar and Open Symantec Antivirus. If your program is 10.1.1.1000 (or less), then you must perform the update. If you are higher than 10.1.1.1000 but less than 10.1.5.5000, then you should perform the update to assure you are at maximum protection.

Western Michigan University has a restricted site license for Symantec AntiVirus. To obtain Symantec AntiVirus (SAV), login to GoWMU using your Bronco NetID and password. Once you have logged in, access the "Virus Protection Downloads" channel, found in the Student Services and Faculty/Staff Services tabs. Select the download that applies to you (campus-owned machine, home machine, student, etc.) and follow the instructions.
