- How
can I check my IP (Internet Protocol) address?

I use the standard Ethernet cable that I got at Best Buy/Circuit City/other

What can I do?
- Where
do you go to install protocols like TCP/IP and IPX/SPX?
1. How
can I check my IP (Internet Protocol) address?
- Click
on Start -> Run.
- Enter CMD and click OK.
- Enter IPCONFIG
The
IP address can be found on the second line.
3. Can
I use the standard Ethernet cable that I got at Best Buy/Circuit City/other
computer store?
- Yes, standard cables may be used.
4. I
am trying to use an Ethernet connection but I can't get online. What
can I do?
- Make
sure that you have an Ethernet Cable.
- Make
sure that you have your Ethernet card installed correctly.
- For
a Windows machine, check the device manager to confirm that
you have installed the Ethernet card correctly.
- To
get to the 'Device Manager' click on 'Start' menu,
then 'Settings,' and 'Control Panel.'
- Double-click
on 'System.'
- Now
click on the tab called 'Device Manager.'
- Look
for a red X, a yellow question mark, or a yellow exclamation point next to anything installed
in your computer, specifically the Network Adaptors. Any one of these symbols indicates a problem
with something installed in your computer.
- Call
the OIT Help Desk (269) 387-HELP (4357), option 1, for more information
and possible solutions.
5. Where
do you go to install protocols like TCP/IP and IPX/SPX?
- Go to Start
-> Settings -> Control Panel.
- Double
click on Network icon.
- Click
on Add.
- Double-click
on Protocol
- Find Microsoft in
the list of vendors on the left and choose TCP/IP on the right.
- Click
OK to add the selected protocol.
- Repeat
the above steps to install other protocols like IPX/SPX.
