Setting Up E-mail Using Netscape 6 and Higher
If
you are accessing this page to reconfigure an existing e-mail
account to use a secure (SSL) connection, complete steps
1, 2 and 3, then go to Step #11.
- Start
Netscape 6Pull
down the Tasks menu and select Mail & Newsgroups
- Select Edit, then Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings....
- In
the Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings window, click the New Account button.
- Select
the ISP or email provider option. Then click Next.
- In
the Identity window, enter your full name and e-mail address.
Click Next.
- Under Server Information:
Incoming
server type must be set to IMAP.
- Enter
your username and click Next
- Enter
a name for the account and click Next
- Verify
that the information you have entered is correct. If you find
any errors, use the Back button to make changes. Click OK to return to the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window when you are finished.
- Click
on Server Settings on the left side of the window. Put
a check in the box labeled Use secure connection (SSL).
Note:
If you are usinggroupwise.wmich.edu as your incoming mail server, do not check the box
for SSL Incoming mail connection.
- Click
on Outgoing Server (SMTP) on the left side of the window.
Put a check in the box labeled Use name and password.
Enter your WMU username in the box provided. Under Use secure
connection (SSL), select Always. Click OK when you are done.
- You
have sucessfully setup Netscape 6.x to check your WMU e-mail
account. You can check for new messages by clicking the Get
Msg button on the Netscape toolbar.
