Bio
Thomas Robert Wolf, Jr. is currently the Chief Technology Officer for Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. After obtaining a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus on Computer Information Systems from WMU in 1984, he spent the next four years as a Programmer/Analyst in the insurance and banking industries.
In 1988 Mr. Wolf returned to his alma mater, WMU, accepting an entry level Programmer position in what was at the time called Administrative Data Processing. He advanced through a variety of IT positions continually growing his responsibilities to include 19 years of project management and 15 years of staff supervision, eventually being named Western Michigan University’s first CTO on July 1, 2011.
Mr. Wolf’s strong commitment and passion for WMU has been passed down for generations. Beginning with a great aunt who graduated from WMU in 1937, through his father who was both a 1959 WMU graduate and commanding officer of WMU’s ROTC program, as well as extended family WMU graduates such as his sister, wife, and eight of her family members, culminating with the 2011 WMU graduation of his son, a 2010 recipient of the Robert Boughner Outstanding Engineering Student Athlete award.
Mr. Wolf attributes much of his success to a healthy work ethic, a keen sense of teamwork, and a client centered environment. Experiences gained in his roles as a Programmer (1988 - 1989), Programmer/Analyst (1989-1992), Programmer/Analyst II (1992-1996), PeopleSoft Administrative Projects Manager (1996 to 2003), Twice Interim Director of Applications (1998-1999 and 2002-2003), Assistant Director of Applications (2003 to 2007), Director of Applications (2008 to 2010), Director of Enterprise Applications (2010 to 2011) have uniquely prepared him for his current position as CTO. Throughout his career Mr. Wolf has routinely adapted leading edge of technologies to meet the needs of his clients and envisions the same for the Office of Information Technology at WMU.
