Abuse/Spam

Abuse E-mail

Abuse e-mail relates to inappropriate behavior, such as ficticious compromised computer notices that encourage you to click something, or stalking and/or harassment type messages. If you receive one of these messages, forward it, as an attachment, to abuse@wmich.edu. For information on forwarding a message as an attachment, please see Forwarding Suspect Messages.

If you receive an e-mail you suspect may be virus or malware-related, you may forward the message, as an attachment, to virus-checker@wmich.edu. For information on forwarding a message as an attachment, please see Forwarding Suspect Messages.

Spam E-mail

Spam e-mail, while an abuse of e-mail systems, is content neutral, unsolicited bulk mailings. Since 2006, the University has been utilizing the PureMessage spam and anti-virus system. PureMessage actively quarantines e-mail that has a 50-100% probability of being spam. Spam messages that you do receive should be deleted and not forwarded to abuse or virus-checker.

Questions should be directed to the OIT Help Desk, 387-HELP (4357) or helpdesk@wmich.edu.
