Administrative Medical Specialist with Medical Billing and Coding (GES 102)

Overview

The Administrative Medical Specialist with Medical Billing and Coding will give you the skills you need to find the job you are looking for as an Administrative Medical Specialist (AMS), Medical Billing Specialist, Medical Coder, and/or Medical Office Manager. In addition to the extensive Medical Billing information, you will be taught every aspect of the Medical Receptionist/Front Desk position.

Upon successful completion of the Administrative Medical Specialist with Medical Billing and Coding course, students will be prepared for an entry-level position doing medical billing or coding in a medical office setting and will be prepared to sit for the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam and the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam offered by National Healthcareer Association (NHA). This online certificate program is offered in partnership with major colleges, universities, and other accredited education providers.

The Administrative Medical Specialist with Medical Billing and Coding (AMS/MBC) will give you the skills you need to find the job you are looking for as an Administrative Medical Specialist (AMS), a medical receptionist, scheduler, insurance specialist, or diagnostic or procedural coder, and even teaches skill in medical office management.  These tasks include:

  • Telephone Techniques
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Patient Registration
  • Verification of Insurance Benefits and Preauthorization
  • Medical Records/Patient Chart creation and maintenance
  • Receptionist Tasks
  • Check-in and Check-Out procedures for patient visits
  • Preparation of insurance claim forms for Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, Worker's Comp, Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BCBS), and others
  • Submission of paper and electronic insurance claims
  • Insurance Follow-up and Collection Techniques
  • Patient Billing
  • Accounts Receivable, including charge and payment entry
  • Diagnostic Coding using ICD-9-CM coding manual
  • Procedural Coding using the CPT and HCPCS Level II codes
  • Training with medical office simulation software (MOSS ©), including step-by-step tutorials and slide presentations on how to use the software

Upon completion of the course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from the school through which you enrolled.  In addition, you will receive a voucher for a study guide, preparation course, and the registration fee for the CBCS (Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist) certification credential through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). You will also be eligible to register, prepare, and take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)’s certification examinations:

  • CMAA (Certified Medical Administrative Assistant)
  • CBCS (Certified Billing and Coding Specialist)

You'll learn much more about the certification, and the details for registering and enrolling in the certification prep course offered by NHA when you complete your AMS/MBC coursework.

Upon registering, you're given an initial six months to complete this program.  Should you need more time beyond the six months, an extension of six months is available at no additional cost.
