No Worker Left Behind

Western Michigan University is part of Michigan’s No Worker Left Behind program, launched by Gov. Jennifer Granholm to support education and retraining for certain high-demand occupations. Participants must be within two years of completing a degree and meet the program’s family income limit. Funds may be used for tuition, books and materials, fees and academic support services.

WMU has more than 40 qualifying programs.

  • Prepare for a high-demand job
  • Get up to $5,000 a year for two years
  • Finish your degree

You may be eligible if...

  • You are a Michigan resident
  • You are within two years of completing a degree
  • You are unemployed, or you have received a layoff or termination notice, or you have a family income of $40,000 or less
  • You are over 23; or you are over 18, not already enrolled full time in college, and you graduated from high school more than two years ago

Final determination regarding eligibility is made by your local Michigan Works agency on a case by case basis and depends on several factors, including regional employment statistics and availability of funds.
