KALAMAZOO, Mich.— Tickets are now available for Western Michigan University's Friday, April 7, on-campus celebration marking the retirement of President John M. Dunn.
Distribution of the 3,100 tickets available for the 3 p.m. event in Miller Auditorium has begun. The 90-minute program will feature tributes, reflection videos, special guest appearances, musical performances and farewell remarks by Dunn. Special performances will be made by the Bronco Marching Band, Gold Company, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the WMU Department of Dance.
Doors open at 2:15 p.m. and the program begins at 3 p.m. Light dessert and coffee will be served after the event on the Grand Tier of Miller Auditorium.
Tickets for general seating must be secured before the event and are only available by request through the Miller Auditorium box office in person or by calling (269) 387-2300. The Miller Box Office is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each order request is limited to four tickets.
Out-of-town guests may make will-call arrangements. All other tickets must be picked up prior to the event. Parking is available in the Miller ramp and in surface lots adjacent to the auditorium.
"This is a communitywide celebration, and we expect these tickets to go quickly," says event organizer Chris Praedel, Office of Development and Alumni Relations. "We're making every effort to ensure students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the University have an opportunity to join in the fun, so we're encouraging those interested to get their tickets early."
The April 7 event follows on the heels of the five-day, 1,500-mile President Dunn Farewell Bus Tour of Michigan, as well as recent alumni events around the nation. Dunn announced last August that he will retire on June 30 of this year after 10 years as WMU's eighth president.
A search for Dunn's replacement is currently underway, with the goal of identifying a new president by the end of this academic year. The process is being guided by a 22-member Presidential Search Advisory Committee that will make a final recommendation to the WMU Board of Trustees.
