Current Job Title:
Describe your current job:
As a Circuit Engineer at Consumers Energy, I plan projects to increase reliability by reducing the frequency and duration of outages.
What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?
The most rewarding and challenging parts of my job are the same: Working with customers to improve their reliability. By the time they call in, they may be frustrated with their situation and thus with the company. It is extremely rewarding when I am able to change their opinion of the company as the result of our interaction.
If you had a campus job or internship, how did they impact your career development?
I was an intern at Consumers Energy for four years during college. The experience I gained during this time made me a strong candidate for the position when I applied, and it made for a smooth transition into the role when I was hired.
What advice do you have for others pursuing a career similar to yours?
Pursuing a degree in something as difficult as electrical engineering is like climbing a mountain. It is truly an uphill battle the entire way. There were times I felt discouraged and wanted to turn back, but then I would turn around and see how far I've come. ALWAYS KEEP CLIMBING! As someone who has been in the industry for a year, I can promise that the view from the top is pretty beautiful.
