Account Executive at Yelp

My role is an inside sales position, where I talk with small business owners across the country. As an Account Executive at Yelp, I help local businesses worldwide connect with their customers through Yelp Ads.

What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?

Sales can be a very challenging career. Having the ability to convey the importance of internet exposure to a small business owner can be very difficult. However, the most rewarding part is being able to talk with these local business owners, and help them grow their business by promoting themselves on Yelp.

What activities, resources, or people helped you prepare for your career?

The activities that helped prepare me for my career stemmed directly from my involvement on Western's campus. I held many leadership positions through Greek Life, WMU's PR Organization, and WSA. I was able to use this experience in interviews to demonstrate different skills I had obtained, which I could then use to contribute to the organizations I interviewed for.

What advice do you have for students looking for their first career after college?

Finding an entry level position can be very difficult.  I applied to over 50 different jobs after college. I think it is extremely important to get as much experience as you can throughout college, and apply to as many jobs as possible. Do research, network, and put your resume out there.
