Western Michigan University seeks students who have demonstrated a commitment to diversity through involvement in their schools, communities, churches, organizations and personal life and who will contribute to the diversity of our campus community. Students who have shown a commitment to diversity, or who plan to at WMU, should apply for the MLK G.O.L.D. Scholarship.
- 3.0+ GPA on a 4.0 scale at end of junior year.
- Submit all required admissions materials to WMU by Friday, December 2, 2016 at 5 p.m.
- For first-time, full-time freshman entering fall 2017.
Completed admissions application file (application, high school transcript, ACT/SAT scores, and application fee/waiver) must be received by Friday, December 2, 2016. First generation college students and students demonstrating financial need are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. A separate application, requiring either a written or video essay, is also due by Friday, December 2, 2016.
Qualifying students will be invited to the MLK competition held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 to compete for one of 50 awards totaling $16,000 for four years (paid in equal amounts fall and spring semesters only). All students not receiving the MLK G.O.L.D. Scholarship will be awarded the Diversity Scholarship, a $1,000 freshman year award (paid in equal amounts fall and spring semesters).

Applicants invited to participate in the scholarship competition on February 18 will be notified via email at the end of January 2017 . All students who are invited to the competition and attend will receive at least a $1,000 scholarship. The top 50 students will receive the $16,000 MLK GOLD award.
