What opportunities can be posted?
- Full-time positions that require at least a bachelor’s degree in a field of study offered at WMU
- Paid internships and unpaid internships (nonprofit organizations and government agencies only)
- Part-time jobs in the greater Kalamazoo area (within 10 miles of the main campus)
- Student employment and graduate assistant opportunities on WMU campus
- Positions requiring seasoned candidates with experience may be posted by employers at no cost on the Alumni LinkedIn Group page.
Who can post?
- Public, private, government and nonprofit organizations who do not charge students for start up costs, training, etc.
- Recruiting agencies if the candidate pays no fee and is not required to function as an independent contractor
- Private residents in the greater Kalamazoo area with part-time employment, such as childcare, housekeeping, tutoring, and yard work (view details and more information)
All employers must submit:
- Functioning company/organization website address and corresponding corporate email domain
- Sufficient detail to clearly convey the nature of work performed by the company/organization
Information required to post
- Job description
- Contact person’s name, email, address, and telephone number
- Specific candidate criteria (GPA, class year, major, etc.)
- Required application materials (resume, cover letter, transcript, references)
- Delivery method for application materials (by email, through Handshake, etc.)
- Application deadline
- Location of the job
- Method of payment that is compliant with federal and state laws and guidelines.
Job and internship posting guidelines
- To utilize Career and Student Employment Services, all employers and their representatives must comply with all Equal Employment Opportunity standards.
- Please read the Department of Justice Best Practices for Online Job Postings to ensure that your organization is in compliance with the law with regard to work authorization when recruiting at WMU.
- Employers may not ask the employee for fees to pay for training, applications or other job-related expenses (excluding federal and state licensing requirements such as real estate, securities, etc.), or ask a student intern to pay any fee except for housing or tuition.
Career and Student Employment Services uses post-graduation outcome data to understand students’ career needs and positions likely of interest to WMU students and alumni. Therefore, we reserve the right to decline employers and job postings determined inappropriate with our student population.
For the protection of our students, we maintain the right to edit or delete any job postings and decline employer accounts for any organization:
- whose goals and practices are determined to be inconsistent with the ideals, principles, and practices of the University
- about whom we received complaints from students
- who do not provide all the required information for employer profiles and/or position postings
- who require financial investment on the part of our students/alumni or may involve unreasonable risks
- who are not in compliance with the NACE Principles for Employment Professionals
confidentiality of student information
Employment professionals must maintain the confidentiality of all student information released to them, regardless of the source, including personal documents, written records/reports, and computer databases. This means that there should be no disclosure of student information to another organization without the prior written consent of the student, unless necessitated by health and/or safety considerations, in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
