The Elmwood complex will be demolished this summer as part of the new South Neighborhood planning projects.
Originally built in 1954, the Elmwood Apartments were designed to fill a growing demand for married student housing on campus. The complex replaced surplus house trailers and Army barracks that were being used as a temporary solution to the growing need. A "modern Scandinavian design" was the inspiration for the new construction project under the leadership of past WMU President, Paul V. Sangren.
