Alumni featured in last Frostic Reading event of the fall

Mancilla

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Two Western Michigan University alums will be in the spotlight for the last installment of the fall 2017 Gwen Frostic Reading Series.

Dan Mancilla and Ephraim Scott Sommers will read from their works at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, in 157-159 Bernhard Center. The reading is free and open to the public.

Mancilla

Mancilla is the author of the short story collection, "All the Proud Fathers" and the novella, "The Deathmask of El Gaucho." He earned a doctoral degree from WMU and is an adjunct professor of general education at Aquinas College.

Mancilla's work has appeared in Barrelhouse, The Chicago Tribune, Midwestern Gothic, Monkeybicycle, The Saturday Evening Post and River Styx, among other publications.

Sommers

Sommers

Sommers is the author of "The Night We Set the Dead Kid on Fire," which was awarded the 2016 Patricia Bibby Frist Book Award. Recent poems, stories and essays have appeared or are forthcoming in Beloit Poetry Journal, Cream City Review, Minnesota Review, Prairie Schooner, TriQuarterly, Verse Daily and elsewhere.

Sommers earned his doctoral degree from WMU and is currently an assistant professor of creative writing at Winthrop University.

Frostic Reading Series

The Gwen Frostic Reading Series presents acclaimed creative writers from across the nation and beyond. Every year, a diverse range of readings that encompasses poetry, fiction, nonfiction and drama attract both campus and off-campus audiences.
