Homecoming weekend 5k race to prompt road closures

The Campus Classic is part of WMU's Homecoming festivities.

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Homecoming Campus Classic will return for its 17th year Saturday, Oct. 24. The 1k fun run begins at 8:45 a.m., and the 5k run/walk begins at 9:15 a.m. Both courses wind through Western Michigan University's West Campus in Kalamazoo.

Registration is now open. Runners may register online or by mail or fax.

Road closures

Several road closures will be in effect. All roads be reopened by 10:30 a.m. Walkers and runners will be asked to move to the sidewalk at 10:15 a.m. to finish the race.

  • Oliver Street from Stadium Drive to Western Avenue will be closed from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.
  • Michigan Avenue will be closed until 9:30 a.m.
  • North Dormitory, Gilkinson, Goldsworth and Rankin to Valley Drive will be closed until 9:50 a.m.
  • Rankin and Business Court to the Miller Ramp will be closed until 10:05 a.m.
  • Western Avenue, Roell, Shaw, Van De Giessen, Arcadia and Western Avenue to the finish line will be closed until 10:30 a.m.
