2013 non-conference schedule opens Aug. 31 at MSU.

KALAMAZOO—Western Michigan University has finalized its non-conference football schedule for the 2013 season with a first-ever meeting against Northwestern University on Sept. 14.

The Wildcats are one of three Big Ten programs that WMU has never faced on the football field. As a way to promote the game, Bronco fans will have a chance to win two tickets to the game in Evanston, Ill., by using Twitter. The tickets will go to the 14th fan who tweets the name of the other Big Ten teams WMU has never played to @wmubroncofans using the hashtag #what2B1G.

The Broncos will open the 2013 campaign against Michigan State University Saturday, Aug. 31, in East Lansing, marking the third time in five seasons that WMU and the Spartans have faced one another. MSU travels to Kalamazoo in 2015.

WMU will hold its annual CommUniverCity Night Sept. 7, when Nicholls State comes to Waldo Stadium for the opening of the Broncos' 75th season. It will be the third time in four seasons the two schools have sparred.

The 2013 non-conference schedule will conclude Sept. 21 in Iowa City, where the Broncos will take on the Hawkeyes for the third time in program history and for the first time since a 28-19 win in 2007.

The Broncos' conference schedule will be announced this spring along with television dates for games.
