KALAMAZOO--Tonya R. Durlach has been promoted to director of electronic communication at Western Michigan University, with responsibility for content on the University's website, mass email, social media and other forms of electronic communication.
Durlach, who served as assistant director since 2008, replaces Thom Myers, who is set to retire in December and will devote his remaining time at the University to implementing WMU's new Web content management system.
A 2003 public relations graduate of WMU, Durlach earned a master's degree in public relations from Syracuse University, and then served as program director of the Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship at Georgia Tech. She returned to WMU in 2006 as a news writer in the Office of University Relations. Her appointment to director of electronic communication was effective April 16.
Electronic communication is part of the Office of University Relations, which also includes public relations, news services, publication and design, marketing and related areas.
