Performing with exhilarating precision and virtuosity, Rhonda Larson and Ventus' charismatic concerts merge the most soulful elements of sacred, Celtic, jazz, classical, folk, and ethnic music. Ventus, Latin for "wind," expresses the essence of Larson's vision and approach to music "without label or genre boundaries, with inherent musical qualities of inspiration that celebrate the human spirit." Grammy Award winning flutist Rhonda Larson leads Ventus with her gold flute and a variety of ethnic flutes from around the world. She will be joined on the Jan. 15 concert by Tim Ray on keyboards (of Lyle Lovett fame), Chris Rosser on guitar and ethnic stringed instrument, Eliot Wadopian on bass, and Kalamazoo percussionist Carolyn Koebel and River Guerguerian on various exotic hand percussion.

Rhonda Larson and Ventus present concerts with all of the accessible charisma of world music rhythms and melodies, making their music appealing to audiences of all ages. This concert will be simultaneously webcast live. Click here to visit the simulcast site.

"The first female star of the flute to bring her polished classical training to a popular fusion of jazz, Celtic, ethnic and sacred music." - Yale University Press, "The Flute"

Established in the Fall of 1985 and renamed in 1988 in honor of its founder, the Donald P. Bullock Music Performance Institute's mission is to add to the already rich cultural life of Kalamazoo by creating opportunities to develop closer personal and artistic ties between audience and performer. Drawing both upon the WMU faculty and visiting artists and ensembles, the Bullock Performance Institute makes it possible for these artists to present events ranging from formal evening concerts to daytime educational outreach events for local audiences, college students, seniors, and youths. As a result, the classical music appreciation and training of student performers and community members will be enhanced, and music lovers in general will have the opportunity to know guest artists more personally. Thus the Bullock Institute will continue to serve the mission of WMU's College of Fine Arts, "Elevating the human condition through the arts."

Recitals and concerts take place in the Dorothy U. Dalton Center on the campus of Western Michigan University. Information about concerts can be obtained by calling (269) 387-4704 or (269) 387-4678, or from www.wmich.edu/mus_bpi.
