International Student Information
General
The WMU School of Music welcomes international
students and currently enrolls international
students representing over a dozen foreign
countries. International students must follow
different admission procedures than United
States citizens. The Office
of International Student Services (OISS) can
help prospective international students with
all aspects of
attending Western Michigan University, including
admissions, orientation, visas, language requirements,
housing, finances, etc.
Finances
Financial aid for newly admitted international
students in music is limited to graduate assistantships
and music scholarships. Graduate assistantships
are administered by the Coordinator of Graduate
Studies in Music. Scholarships are determined
by audition by the various performance areas
in the School of Music.
English Requirements
International students
from countries where English is not spoken
as the primary language
must demonstrate competency in English before
being admitted to a degree program in music.
The most common method of demonstrating this
competency is with the TOEFL exam. Minimum
