Julie Evans (2002)

Julie A. Evans is a Faculty Specialist II
in the School of Music at Western Michigan University, where she teaches
courses in aural comprehension. She received two degrees in violin performance:
a Bachelor of Music from Boston University and a Master of Music from The
University of Michigan, graduating summa cum laude from the latter. Her
teachers include Jacob Krachmalnick, Gerald Elias, Roger Shermont, and Gerald Gelbloom.
Prior to relocating to Michigan, Evans taught
for eight years at Alfred University in New York State, where she developed the
string program, conducted the newly formed chamber orchestra, and redesigned the
music theory curriculum to include studies and training in aural skills.
Evans is currently a member of the Kalamazoo
(Michigan) Symphony Orchestra. Her past orchestral experience includes
membership in the Hudson Valley (New York) Philharmonic, Harvard-Radcliffe
Symphony Orchestra East Asia tour, Nashua (New Hampshire) Symphony Orchestra,
Tanglewood Music Center Fellowship Orchestra, and Ann Arbor (Michigan)
Chamber Orchestra.
Evans has also performed extensively as a
soloist and chamber musician. In addition to performing with the Kalamazoo
Symphony Orchestra, she is a freelance musician and a string coach for the
Kalamazoo Junior Symphony.
Evans' professional affiliations include
College Music Society (CMS), Association for Technology in Music Instruction
(ATMI), American String Teachers Association (ASTA), and Pi Kappa Lambda
national music honor society.
