Brian L. Wilson is Professor of Music at Western Michigan University where he serves as Director of Music Therapy and teaches upper level undergraduate and graduate courses in the music therapy curriculum. He received the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in music therapy from Florida State University. Prior to university teaching, he was an active clinician working primarily with adults and adolescents with mental disorders and adults with global developmental disabilities.
Wilson is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences and has been published in several books and journals. He is the editor of Music Therapy Perspectives, a clinically-based journal published by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). He is also the editor of Models of Music Therapy in School Settings, a foundation text widely used in universities nationwide. Wilson is a Past President of Michigan Music Therapists and a member of the Assembly of Delegates of the AMTA. He has held several offices and appointments in state, regional, and national music therapy associations including serving on the Board of Directors of the AMTA for 10 years. He has received numerous accolades for his service to the profession including the Distinguished Service Award from AMTA in 2002 and the Honorary Life Member Award from AMTA in 2007.
