M.M. Indiana
Alice Obery Pierce, soprano, is originally from Indiana where she received a BM and MM in Vocal Performance at Indiana University. After beginning her doctorate, she accepted a position in 1987 on the voice faculty at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. She moved then in 1990 to Winston-Salem to join the faculty at the acclaimed North Carolina School of the Arts. During these years she was a Metropolitan Opera Regional finalist twice. She sang often in concert and opera, and started a family.
In 1992, she moved with her family to Germany where she joined the solo ensemble of the Brandenburg State Theater in Cottbus. For ten years she sang there as a full-time soloist, averaging almost 100 performances a year in operas, operettas, musicals, and concerts. Some of the highlights of career there include the roles of Olympia in the Tales of Hoffmann, Adele in Fledermaus, Maria in West Side Story, Blonde in Die Entfuerung aus dem Serail, and Oscar in Masked Ball. She also performed in many other cities in Germany, as well as in Poland and Italy.
Mrs. Pierce is a member of NATS and her students continue to place well in state and regional competitions.
