About BPI
The Donald P. Bullock Music Performance Institute (BPI)
is part of the School
of Music at Western Michigan
University that serves and supports the institution's
ongoing mission of meeting the educational and musical needs
of our Southwest Michigan community, as well as University
students, faculty and staff. We are pleased to annually
feature three series of performances, the Dalton
Series, the Faculty Artist
Series, and the Young Concert
Artists Series. These series offer diverse performances
that might not otherwise be part of Kalamazoo's rich cultural
scene. BPI is pleased to invite you, our friends, alumni,
and patrons, to attend our concerts. Evening concerts this
season begin at 8:15 pm with brief pre-concert talks by
WMUK radio personality
Cara Lieurance. These presentations are entitled "Words
Before Music." We hope you will choose to experience
the great variety of concerts presented by Western Michigan
University's School of Music. We extend an ongoing invitation
to you to join us in the Dorothy U. Dalton Center Recital
Hall, as we celebrate music, "elevating
the human condition through the arts." Bullock
Performance Institute concerts are ticketed events and
all
efforts are made to keep costs low. Tickets for these events
are available from Miller
Auditorium and its community ticketing services in advance,
and, always at the door on a first come, first served basis.
Tickets for students and seniors are $5, and general admission
is $10 for each event.
Established
in the Fall of 1985 and renamed in 1988 in honor of its
founder, the Donald P. Bullock Music Performance Institute's
mission is to add to the already rich cultural life of Kalamazoo
by creating opportunities to develop closer personal and
artistic ties between audience and performer. Drawing upon
the Dalton Series artists, Young Concert Artists, and WMU
faculty artists and ensembles, the Bullock Performance Institute
makes it possible for these artists to present events ranging
from evening concerts and educational outreach to daytime
events for local audiences, college students, seniors and
youths. As a result, the classical music appreciation and
training of student performers and community members will
be enhanced, and music lovers in general will have the opportunity
to know guest artists more personally. Thus the Bullock
Institute will continue to serve the mission of WMU's College
of Fine Arts, "elevating the human condition through
the arts."
Recitals and concerts take place in the Dorothy U. Dalton
Center on the campus of Western Michigan University. Information
about concerts can be obtained by calling 269.387.4704,
