GENERAL INFORMATION

Conference registration will begin Friday, 17 May, at 10:00 am in the lobby of Dalton Center on the campus of Western Michigan University. The opening session will convene at 10:30 am. The executive board, including area representatives and student representatives, will hold their meeting at 12:00 on Friday; newly elected officers and representatives are also invited to attend. The Friday afternoon session will be followed by a reception at Sprau Tower from 5:00-6:00 pm. At 8:00 pm Friday night there will be a concert of Norwegian folk and art music featuring the nine-stringed Harding fiddle. On Saturday, Henry Panion (Univ. of Alabama at Birmingham) will present the keynote address, "Legitimizing Pop Music," at 2:00 p.m. The business meeting of MTMW will be held at 5:00 p.m. after the paper sessions on Saturday afternoon and will be followed by an (optional) dinner gathering at the University Road House at 7:00 pm. The conference concludes at 12:00 on Sunday, 19 May. In honor of Arthur Komar, one of the founders of MTMW, a special award will be given for the best student paper at the meeting.
