Eligibility & Orientation

• Recipients of the Diversity and Multculturalism Scholarship and the Incentive Scholarship Program awards are eligible for participation in the Academy, and are admitted to the program through The Office of Admissions and Orientation.


• Freshman students who wish to enroll in the Academy should contact Multicultural Affairs no later than Friday, August 19, 2011.


• All Diversity and Multiculturalism Scholars attending the MLK Academy must register for one of the WMU Orientation sessions listed below. On DAY 1 of Orientation, students will attend an MLK Orientation session from 6 to 7 p.m., where they will be served dinner and introduced to the MLK Academy. Students will be escorted by their Student Orientation Leader to 2276 Ellsworth Hall.

MLK Kick-off

• First-year Academy students are required to attend the MLK Kick-off during Fall Welcome Week in August.

Fall Welcome Week Early Move-In Schedule

Students who are enrolled in the Martin Luther King Jr. Academy will move in to the dormitory on Monday, August 29 as follows:

9 a.m. to noon: Ackley, Hadley, Garneau, Eicher, Harrison, Draper, and Henry

2 to 5 p.m.: Shilling, Britton, Harvey, Lefevre, Stinson, Burnhams, Bigelow, Hoekje, Seidschlag, and Little 3 (French, Zimmerman, Davis)

Commuter students check in at 4 p.m. at 157 Bernhard Center.

All MLK Academy students will meet on Tuesday, August 30, at the Multicultural Center (MCC) in the Trimpe Building, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for the MLK Kick-off.
