The Department of Mathematics at Western Michigan University invites applications and nominations for the tenure-track position of assistant/associate professor of mathematics education.

Major responsibilities

Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics education (typically two courses per semester), mentoring and advising pre-service teachers and graduate students, and developing a vigorous externally funded research program in mathematics education.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in mathematics education or a closely-related field at time of appointment is required. A master’s degree in mathematics is preferred. A strong record of research and teaching in mathematics education is expected.

Department of Mathematics

The department offers programs in mathematics and math education at the bachelors, master’s and doctoral levels. The department’s tenure-line faculty members include 20 in mathematics and 10 in math education. Research strengths in math education include curriculum development and implementation, assessment and evaluation, technology, mathematical thinking (children, teachers) and teacher education (pre-service, inservice).The department has a strong record of NSF funding and is home to the nationally recognized NSF-funded Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum and the Core-Plus Mathematics Project.
