Abstract

"Mathematical Modeling in Industry: Notes From a Student Workhop",
Danny Dunlavy, WMU student

This past summer, I had the fortunate experience of participating in a workshop at the Institute for Mathematics and Its Application (IMA), located at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Working with a mentor from Lucent Technologies and graduate students from Purdue University, Michigan State University, University of California-San Diego, and Wayne State University, we created general purpose software for solving large systems of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Specifically, we developed algorithms for finding the steady state of radio-frequency communication circuitry. This talk highlights the structure of the workshop, the IMA, and the findings of the RF Communication Circuits Team.
