Rob Medd is a graduate student at Western Michigan University pursuing a Masters of Music degree in Trombone Performance. Prior to attending WMU, he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance and Music Education from the University of Iowa (2012). At the UI, he performed with the UI Symphony Band, UI Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Repertory Ensemble, Latin Jazz Ensemble, and Trombone Choir. Rob was also a member of the Hawkeye Marching Band for 2 years and performed at the Outback Bowl and Orange Bowl. He has taught private lessons on Trombone and Euphonium for the past 5 years and his students have been members of the Iowa All-State Band, SEIBA Honor Band and Jazz Band, and have received college music scholarships. Since graduating in December, Rob has taught as a priority music substitute in the Iowa City Community School District. Other performance experience includes playing at the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific for the past two summer seasons where Rob worked with Gordon Cherry (former principal trombonist of the Vancouver Symphony), principal trombone in the Iowa City Community Band, and local freelance playing. Rob’s professional affiliations include the Iowa Bandmasters Association, where he has served as Collegiate Student Affairs Chairperson, NAfME, and the International Trombone Association. He is also an alumni member of the Iota Gamma chapter of Phi Mu Alpha. When not performing or teaching music, Rob enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing Frisbee golf, watching football, or just hanging out.
