Hailing from River Valley High School in Three Oaks, Michigan, Deanna Phillips is a senior Instrumental Music Education major at Western Michigan University.  Prior to arriving at Western, she attended Southwestern Michigan College and earned an Associate in Arts degree.  There, she performed in the Jazz and Symphonic Bands, as well as the Concert Choir, Select Voices, Show Choir, and Women’s Choir.  This is her fourth year in the Bronco Marching Band.  Prior to serving as Senior Field Assistant, Deanna served two years as a clarinet section leader.  In addition to Bronco Band, Deanna has played in many WMU ensembles including Concert Band, Campus Band, Symphonic Band, and Pep Band.

Outside instrumental ensembles, Deanna is also very involved in student organizations.  She is a proud and active brother of Kappa Kappa Psi—National Honorary Fraternity for College Band Members—and will be serving the 2015-2016 school year as the Vice President of Membership.  In the past, she has held the positions of Recording Secretary and Music Director.  Deanna is also one of the leaders of the Vocaholics, a student-led a capella group that is comprised of WMU and KVCC students.

Aside from her musical activities, Deanna enjoys spending her free time knitting, cycling, and dancing.  She served as choreographer for South County Players’ production of Godspell in 2013, and currently serves as choreographer for the Vocaholics.  Deanna couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming Bronco Band season, and can’t wait for the first day of band camp.  Without a doubt, this will be a successful year for the BMB.  Let’s go Bronco Band!
