Overview

This document is intended as a beginning guide to web sites and selected WMU Library holdings in Nursing, and related fields.

WestCat

Classic Library Catalog WMU's Classic online catalog (also known as WestCat), is used to identify books (including electronic books), government documents, journals, audio and video, slides, music scores, and other items in the University Libraries' collections. The catalog can be searched by title, author, subject heading, keyword, call number, and more.

Clinical Trials The U.S. National Institutes of Health through the National Library of Medicine provide information about clinical research studies.

OVID Nursing Collection Indexes hundreds of nursing journals and provides full text access to over forty of these journals. Searches can be limited just to full text or review articles. Updated daily.

Science Direct Database for scientific research that contains the citations and abstracts of more than 1,800 Elsevier journals in the life, physical, medical, technical, and social sciences as well as selected full text articles. Science Direct can be searched as a database or browsed by individual title. Coverage varies.

General Nursing Resources

Martindale's Virtual Nursing Center An excellent resource in all aspects of Nursing. Provides table of contents, and abstracts to several nursing journals such as AJN, Cancer Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist.

NIH Clinical Center Nursing Department A Biomedical facility with links to other Nursing resources on the internet.

Articles

To locate articles in Nursing, the following indexes, electronic journals, full text resources and databases should prove helpful.

Cochrane Library Evidence-based medicine databases including systematic reviews and a controlled trials register on the effects of health care.

STAT!Ref Online Library This is a collection of online health sciences texts including clinical texts, drug information, general practice and specialized medicine titles. Search results are displayed as citations, which lead to the full-text, complete with tables, graphics and links. STAT!Ref also includes databases such as MedCalc3000, Point-of-care tools and learning resources. This subscription is limited to three simultaneous users. Please logout when finished.

CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health) Indexes journals in nursing and related fields with full text for 560 of them. Some go back as far as 1937. Updated weekly.

Mosby's Nursing Consult Drug information, patient handouts, medical journals, health reference books, nursing news, clinical updates and more.

PsycINFO Psychological Abstracts BF 1 .P65 (General Stacks)
Covers world-wide literature in psychology and related disciplines. Journal articles, technical reports, books, book chapters, and dissertations are included. Coverage: 1887-present. Updated weekly.

ERIC
The Educational Resources Information Center indexes and abstracts over 2,000 journals and more than 450,000 reports in education and related fields. Some documents are available full text, the rest are on microfiche in the Education Library. Covers 1966-present. Updated monthly.
