Ben Tibbs Poetry and Graphic Arts Collection
Ben Tibbs (1907-1995) was a local poet who was also known for his work in
the graphic arts. He designed the book covers for his own works as well as the
covers for many other poets.
His family donated his extensive poetry collection
to Special Collections, a majority of which are signed by authors such as: Diane
Wakoski, Denise Levertov, Muriel Ruykerser, Anne Sexton, Galway Kinnell, David
Meltzer, and Charles Reznikoff. Other poets in this collection includes: Diane
Di Prima, Robert Bly, Douglas Woolf, Conrad Hilberry, Fielding Dawson, W.S. Merwin,
Gary Snyder, and John Woods. Tibbs's own work in poetry, book design, and graphic
arts is represented in the collection as well.
