Eunice LeFevre Miniature Book
Collection
The Eunice LeFevre Miniature Book Collection consists of over 550 volumes
of miniature books, the largest of which is no more than fourteen centimeters
tall. The bulk of our collection is the result of a gift from Eunice LeFevre,
donated in part for the Historical Children's Book Collection . The oldest book
in the collection dates from the 17th century, but the library is continuing
to buy contemporary examples of miniature books as well as collecting older volumes.
A wide variety of subjects are represented in this collection. The collection
includes books on religion, poetry, fairytales, education, biographies, and books
on the history of printing. The collection also contains books printed in languages
other than English, such as: French, German, Icelandic, Russian, Greek, and Japanese.
The titles in the collection include: Hazeltine's Pocketbook Almanac from
1882, Japanese Fairy Tales: Stories and Folklore of Old Japan, Lenin and
Prague , The Odyssey in Greek, as well as several artists' books such as
Ray Bradbury's The Stars and JoAnna Poehlmann's Drawings in a Nutshell
II . Several primer's, Bibles and prayer books are also included in the
collection including: Tom Thumb's Play Book: to Teach Young Children Their Letters
as Soon as They Can, The Story Book: For Good Little Girls, Dew Drops, and Daily
Food.
