Ralph Henry Carless Davis Collection
The R.H.C (Ralph Henry Carless) Davis collection was purchased from an English
bookseller after the death of Davis' brother, Godfrey, who owned the collection.
The collection focuses on medieval European history and contains nearly every
book, which Professor Davis wrote.
R.H.C. Davis began his teaching career in 1947, the year he received his Master's
degree. By 1970 he had become the head of the History Department at the University
of Birmingham, where he remained until 1984.
In addition to the collection of
books by R.H.C. Davis, the collection also includes offprints of articles he
wrote for several different journals, biographical articles, and his obituary
from the Proceedings of the British Academy, as well as some family
correspondence.
