Special Collections Department
Special Collections & Rare Book Room, located on the
third floor of Waldo Library, has over 39,000 books including over 120 medieval
manuscripts, 60 incunabula, modern and early modern printed editions, and fine
press edition books.
The Department of Special Collections is one of the largest
repositories of primary resources and research materials in the WMU Libraries.

In addition, the collection contains over 4,500 linear feet of modern
manuscripts and other research materials.
Our holdings are organized into different
research collections, emphasizing Cistercian and monastic studies, medieval studies,
American women's poetry, historical children's books, pop-up and movable books,
19th and 20th century literature (Walt Whitman , Emily Dickinson , Alan Paton
, John Woods , May Sarton , W.H. Auden , Archibald MacLeish , among others),
hand-made paper, fine printing, and artist's books. Visit
