The following Web sites contain information and images for the research and study of the visual arts. These services are available at no cost.

This is Sanford's Art Education Resources page for grades 1 - 6.  Lesson plans include techniques and projects designed around well known artists' work.



Art Education Internet Resources Page for K12This site is hosted by the Internet School Library Media Center (ISLMC) to assist art educators in locating instructive and informative web sites supporting grades K - 12.  Use this site to link to art education sites, art museums, lesson plans, journals, government agencies, and professional organizations.

Art History Resources on the WebCreated by Christopher Witcombe, professor of Art History at Sweet Briar College in Virginia, this site directs the user to Web resources by time and stylistic periods. Also includes links to museums and galleries.

ArtcyclopediaSearching tool for locating Web sites on artists and museums. The interface is searchable by artist name, title of work, or museum. Links users to Web sites containing images and text.

Arts Ed Net from the GettyComprehensive site includes lesson plans, curriculum ideas, and image links.  This site hosts an online discussion group for art educators.

AskArtReference tool can be searched by artist name. Gives references to books and periodicals about the artist, museums owning works by the artist, dealers, and auction records.

Crayola Creativity CentralConsult Crayola's art educators site to locate over 800 lesson plans and 1000 arts and crafts projects.  This well designed site is fully searchable.  Users need to register.

Kennedy Center ArtsEdgeCurricula, lessons plans, image collections, and exhibitons are among the web links on this site.  Professional resources include links to professional development sources and workshops.

Kinder Art
This site contains information useful to teachers and home schoolers working with gradres K - 6. Includes links to articles, students with special needs, edible art, and information on how to make non-edible art supplies.

Mother of All Art and Art History LinksThe Art History department at the University of Michigan developed this site linking users to a variety of Web art and art history sites. Includes information on art schools and departments, online exhibitions, museums, informational pages, and more.

National Gallery, London

The National Gallery in London was founded in 1824.  Today it contains over 20,000 paintings
created between 1200 and 1900 including works by Leonardo daVinci, Rembrandt,
and Van Gogh.  Search the collection from
their home page to discover digital images and information about individual
works owned by the museum.  Images from
their image collection are downloadable. 
The Web site also contains image and audio tours of the museum.  This is an excellent tool for enhancing
knowledge in Western art.



 

Wet CanvasAll purpose Web site for the living artist, art educator, and researcher.  Contains artist profiles, information on at suppliers, chat room, blog, and images.  Create your own artist profile and user account.
