There are multiple sources in which you can locate biographical information about psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, and other practitioners of psychology and its related areas. The encyclopedias and dictionaries noted above, with few exceptions, contain biographical data as do general encyclopedias and biographical sources. Use the Library Catalog to search for books on individual psychologists by subject, NOT author, e.g., search Skinner, B.F; James, William; Piaget, Jean, etc.
A simple way to identify books that contain biographical material is to use the Basic Search screen in the Library Catalog. Type in "Psychologists, " change the right hand drop down menu to Subject Headings, and a screen comes up showing that there are at least 10 entries under that heading in Waldo. Following that listing are several subdivisions including "Psychologists Biography" that has 28 titles identified. Moreover, by searching with different but related occupations, e.g., Psychiatrists, additional biographical dictionaries and directories can be located. Of course, well-know mental health professionals, both living and dead, can be found in several general biographical sources. See Biographical Information in the Subject Guides listing. Some biographical information is also found in membership directories such as the American Psychological Association. A few examples of the entries found under the subject heading of "Psychologists Biography" are:
Biographical Dictionary of Psychology
(BF109 .A1 Z85 1984 Ref)
Portraits of Pioneers in Psychology
(BF109 .A1 P67 1991 and 1996 General Stacks)
