Finding Articles on a Subject
To locate articles on a topic related to the visual arts, you can use several indexes to periodical literature. These indexes are available in print and electronic forms. To use one of the electronic indexes, you must enter Research Resources on the Library Home page. Select Article Indexes and Databases, then Art from the subject menu on the left side of the page. You can then choose a database to work with. In each database, try author, title, and subject searches. If you are not sure what terms to enter for these searches, go to a keyword search. Both print and electronic sources are listed below.
Art Abstracts Indexes more than 400 of the leading journals in the arts, including areas such as archaeology, architecture, art history, city planning, crafts, film, folk art, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, musicology, painting, photography, sculpture, television, textiles, and video. Coverage is from 1984 with abstracts since 1994. Updated monthly.

Z 5937 .A78 (Waldo Reference) Index to citations in visual arts publications from 1929 through April 1998.
Art Index Retrospective: 1929-1984 This index covers back issues of Art Index and includes citations from over 420 periodicals in English and other languages. Covering fine, decorative and commercial art, it also indexes reproductions of art works appearing in these periodicals.

Arts & Humanities Citation Index (Web of Science) The Arts & Humanities Citation Index is a multidisciplinary database that indexes 1,144 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals, and selected, relevant items from over 6,800 major science and social science journals. Coverage is from 1975 to the present.
Bibliography of the History of Art Indexes and abstracts more than 4,000 journals as well as books and other publications in European and American art from antiquity to the present. Coverage from 1973 to the present. Updated quarterly.
